Because being healthy isn't simply being slim

Helping make you healthier and happier

Every day we support people to be healthier AND a better shape.

  • Busy Professionals
  • Menopausal women
  • Families

We've grown up with an outdated understanding of healthy

From our existing education, media and food industry messaging, we have (unfortunately) a watered down understanding of what healthy really is.

Slim means healthy

This leads many of us to believe that being healthy is simply being slim. And that being slim isn't some degree of luck.

Slim alone isn't the measure of good health.

For example, you can be slim and stressed, slim and fatigued, or slim with poor gut health.

Why people are overweight

Many falsely believe that people are overweight because:

they are too inactive, and they eat too much.

This simply isn't true.

Counting calories is flawed, and isn't part of the solution: you don't need to.

Gut and liver health

Actually, the makeup of your gut bacteria versus others is a key difference between those who become overweight or not.

And healthy or unhealthy.

  • Gut health has more influence on your health than genes alone.

  • Your level of liver and visceral fat also tell us a lot about your current and future health.

  • Sleep, stress and blood sugar levels also play a key part.

  • None of these are fully visible when looking at someone.

The great news is that...You can change this!

Person walking forwards, in nature

A busy lifestyle won't stop you

Our approach doesn't require significant time commitment.

Even with your busy lifestyle, you can still get healthy and slimmer, preventing conditions rather than treating them when they arise.

Make changes easily:

We use an up to date science approach rather than hard graft.

And, our approach of taking multiple small shifts means changes are easy to make and sustain.

No dieting!

The best news: this doesn't require going on a diet or counting calories. You can eat well!

We can work out what works for your body and use that to shift your health and body shape.

"It all starts with a health assessment, and a conversation"...

How our support works

Think of us a bit like personal fitness training, but instead, we're here to help you improve your complete lifestyle health picture.

We use science rather than hard work to enable changes for you.

01 - Understand

Health assessment being taken on a tablet pc

We help you understand your lifestyle health picture:

  • Size & shape
  • Gut & Liver health
  • Blood sugar levels & response
  • Sleep
  • Exercise
  • Mood & Stress
  • Physical environment
  • Digital habits & health

We use a comprehensive free lifestyle health assessment to start this off. You don't need to purchase or join to do this.

You can then undergo blood sugar level monitoring and/or gut health testing where you wish, but this is up to you.

Your headphones should always look amazing! Pick your preferred color.

02 - Conversation

Phone or video conversation

We have a phone or video conversation to discuss your lifestyle health and what you want to prioritise.

We create the beginning of a programme with you, which we can can adjust along the way.

03 - Support

Support for you

We then support you one-to-one: help you make the changes you want, week by week.

We tailor our support to your situation & preferences.

We support you to make manageable, lasting changes: small shifts lead to big change.

How do we make it different for you?

  • All in one place: the complete lifestyle health picture.

Unlike generic nutrition programmes, which focus solely on weight loss and have a standardised approach, we take a whole lifestyle health approach:

    Size & shape

    Gut & Liver health

    Blood sugar levels & response

    Sleep

    Exercise

    Mood & Stress

    Physical environment

    Digital habits & health

And, we tailor our approach to you.

    Why?

To succeed. You could have the best diet, but still fail because of other things around it like stress, or even when you eat. Multiple things interact and so they can't be ignored.

We are like an affordable version of private health care, but instead we help prevent many of today's health problems rather than deal with them when they arise.

We want to help you live a more fulfilled life and lessen the burden on our NHS.

  • You get a personal approach.

It all starts with an assessment and a conversation, then it's all dependent on your situation and what's important to you.

We're here to support you one-to-one in the way that works for you, not create limitations.

Everybody changes and learns in a different way, and we support that.

  • You get up to date science: evidence based support.

We've researched many leading author's works across the health spectrum, and keep up to date with advancements as they come.

We've incorporated this into our own lives gradually and now bring you support to do the same.

This saves you the time, saves you from approaches which have no scientific merit or validation.

See our updated science page to catch up on a snapshot of up to date information.

  • We support individuals, couples, and whole families.

Whether you are an individual, coming as a couple, or coming as a whole family, we can support.

We haven't come across another service which combines preventative medicine, coaching and can support you as a family or individual.

  • No set approaches, generic programmes, or prescriptive diets.

Instead, we help you build up a toolbox of principles.

And, you can learn how your body reacts to specific foods and other changes you make.

  • You avoid unnecessary tests and pseudoscience.

Whilst we do offer tests to understand aspects such as gut health, liver health, blood sugar response insulin resistance, in many cases these aren't necessary initially, or at all.

We don't sell or encourage you to take random tests or products that don't help you, or whose results are unactionable.

We don't sell supplements. We don't encourage the use of them where the science doesn't match the claim.

Instead, you'll be able to query products or tests you see from other providers and whether they are worth you doing.

We also see the issues with today's food environment, which includes biased and confusing health messaging. We aim to provide you with the right tools to navigate it.

  • You can become more sustainable.

Part of our expertise is in sustainability.

We can help you and your family become more sustainable in all you do, from home life, to diet, to travel.

But, we don't judge. If this doesn't interest you, we won't make recommendations or push the issue.

  • We celebrate diversity.

We help make this suitable for you no matter your gender at birth, the gender you identify with, or whether you're neurodiverse or neurotypical.

If you have learning or accessibility needs then we can adjust to suit your style.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will becoming more healthy cost me more?

There are multiple aspects to this.

In terms of food shopping, it depends on what you currently buy and the make up of your diet. If you currently eat a lot of meat and you were to move to eating more plants, you may save money in the process.

You may find that certain supplements or over the counter medications you've been taking are no longer required, and stopping taking these can save a substantial amount.

Your behaviour changes as a result of the programme though will probably have the biggest benefit on your wallet. Getting in control of your complete health situation and your hormones may make you more immune to advertising fads and buying things in life you don't need. You may enjoy more of the free things life has to offer and save a substantial amount of money in the process.

Additionally, should the healthcare system become more private in the future, or should you need substantial days off in the future to deal with long term illnesses, then these may cost you significantly. Either in time off, the cost of treatment, or the cost of insurance. Already, health insurance varies widely due to medical conditions. Having a long term health condition will make insurance either very expensive or you may not be able to get insured.

So, proactively taking control of your health, and ensuring better long term health outcomes, could save you a substantial sum.

  • How are individualised responses to food and other things assessed?

We use a mix of short term tools and longer term assessment to help you understand your response to food and other interventions. These are personal to you and your situation at the time of testing.

In terms of immediate feedback, we use continuous glucose monitoring to help you understand your blood sugar response to eating different meals, drinks, snacks, and to exercise.

This is using a small electronic device which is put on your arm, and is connected to your smartphone. This looks at your blood sugar levels multiple times per hour.

You record what food you eat, what exercise you take, and if you like, your sleep and waking patterns. You can see the changes in your blood sugar levels for each of these things you do.

If you connect to our data service, we can analyse the results and help provide you with insights about how to improve your blood sugar responses, which foods are providing a more healthy or unhealthy response for you specifically. When doing this as a family, or as a couple, we can suggest changes that are most aligned to be positive for all.

However, rather than just doing this in isolation, we help you understand how this fits into the bigger picture and whether (and how) to adjust your programme so that you reach your goals.

In terms of longer term feedback, we can look at interventions you are making via food choices and timing, sleep, and other factors. And, test your gut health as a result of interventions you are making. As a result, you build up a picture of what is working, and not working, for you and your longer term response to these interventions.

The purpose of all of these is to help you understand specific factors which are helping or hindering your health (or you changing shape). Because your response is individual, our general assessments can only go so far before the personalised testing we offer is wanted or needed.

A final key point is not to be reductionist. For example, how something affects your blood sugar levels is not the only consideration, there is also your gut health, mental wellbeing, etc.  So, we don't advise just following one measure alone and basing all your decisions on this. We try to remain whole picture and help you to do so.

  • How does the blood testing work?

Our blood testing service operates across the UK so it's likely that there will be something reasonably close to you. It may be possible, area dependent, to pay additional and have blood taken at your home.

The blood testing allows understanding of areas such as your liver health, cardiovascular health, and blood sugar control.

Either as a result of the lifestyle health assessment, a consultation, or at your discretion, a test can be purchased by you.

We can give you a guide price before knowing your area. But, as price varies by area due to your local clinic where the blood is drawn having different costs to one another, we need to know that for an exact price.

You book the test time and location via telephone, and then have blood taken at the clinic of your choosing (Monday-Saturday).

The blood is sent to the laboratory and then processed. We provide you with the results of your test once they're available.

After the results, you can decide whether you'd like to book in an ad hoc consultation with us. And, we can discuss adapting your programme suitably as a result of the test results.

In order to provide the best cost and least hassle to you, the lab does store some of blood for a period, in case additional tests are required. In a number of cases, where they are, this can save the time and cost of getting blood taken again.

Note that only the minimum personal data are provided to third parties we work with in order to deliver this nationwide service.

  • How does the gut health testing work?

Our gut health (microbiome) testing operates across the UK, and does not require you to visit any clinic.

The gut health (microbiome) testing allows understanding of either an overview of gut health (different bacteria, parasites, viruses, yeasts, etc and their abundance), or more detailed including other biomarkers relating to gastrointestinal health (see full description in our store).

Either as a result of the lifestyle health assessment, a consultation, or at your discretion, a test can be purchased by you.

It does require you to take three stool (poo) samples from three different days, and then these are sent off to the laboratory for processing. In case you're concerned, all equipment is provided so you can do this safely and hygienically.  We also provide guidance on anything to avoid eating just for the days before and during your test window.

The test kit is sent to your home. And, collection packaging is included. You provide the samples. You arrange a suitable time for the collection of the package.

The samples are sent to the laboratory and then processed. We provide you with the results of your test once they're available.

Rather than just leave you with information you don't necessarily know what to do with, we include a consultation with you, which is best had once you've had a chance to read the summary results.

We can discuss interventions with you to help you positively change your gut health, if/where required. We can help you adapt your lifestyle suitably as a result of the test results.

Note that only the minimum personal data are provided to third parties we work with in order to deliver this nationwide service.

  • Will I need to exclude certain foods?

Inline with good nutrition practice, we don't advise you to avoid or exclude certain foods or food groups from your diet (allergies excluded).

Using exclusion type diets - getting you to cut out food groups or certain foods - you may actually be reducing your intake of the range of nutrients you need, which will not be good for your health.

Eating a less wide range of real foods tends to correlate with decreased diversity of bacteria in your gut, which as a consequence, is detrimental to your overall health and longevity (they’re that important!).

  • Can I get tests done elsewhere?

Whilst we provide a select range of tests to help you understand some key health aspects (whose results are actionable), you are welcome to purchase tests from anywhere and we can still take the findings into account.

We just tend to find that people are often sold tests where the results aren't actionable, they don't need it, or the test method isn't valid. Our 'Ask Emily' service helps prevent our members wasting money on such tests.

Also, people often don't get the post-test support from other providers, just a lengthy report and then they're left on their own.
